How many times have you come back from a shoot, dumped your photos to your computer, started sifting through them and thought “Blech! I shot that?!” Or you’ve looked at that composition that in the camera LCD seemed perfect, but then in the larger view of your laptop you noticed the color was off?

Of course that’s why we use Adobe Photoshop, but sometimes the task of turning a decent photo into a masterpiece can seem daunting. With so many options and infinite orders in which to perform them, it’s easy to get lost in the process. But a process is just what you need and Scott Kelby, master of time, space, and dimension (as well as all things Photoshop) thinks he’s come up with the Magna Carta of Photoshop workflows.

Before and After using Kelby's technique
And he might not be wrong.

With his book “Scott Kelby’s 7-Point System for Adobe Photoshop CS3”, he guides you through this nearly foolproof workflow for turning a drab, flat, boring (but well captured) photo into a piece of photographic beauty. He won’t teach you to salvage out of focus, blurred, or poorly composed shots. But if you have any skill with a camera at all, you’ll find something to like in his workflow. It will definitely change the way you process your photos and open up new and creative ways of making sure that what you saw when you captured the image is what you end up with in a finished product.

Kelby provides 21 step-by-step lessons that guide you not just through which buttons to click, but teaches you why you’re taking those actions in the first place. Through his conversational, nearly stream-of-consciousness (and witty) writing style, you will learn to see what’s missing in a photo, what you expected to be there, and how to get it right through processing. The book features full color photos and screen captures throughout and you can download all the sample projects from Kelby’s website so that you can follow along, step-by-step.

The “7-Point System” is a definite must-have for any digital photographer using Photoshop (especially CS3). photographyvoice.com give’s Scott Kelby’s book an unquestionable rating of HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I have this book and it is wonderful! It is so good, in fact, that my sister broke into my house while I was out of town and "borrowed" the book from my desk. She did all lessons in a weekend and returned the book, open to the exact page I was using. Then she bought a copy for herself..for a reference tool.
