As many of you know, our colleague Rick Slaven of AZColt's Picture of the Day site has been undergoing treatment for brain cancer. I thought it might be nice to have the readers of photographyvoice.com sign a virtual GET WELL card for Rick as well as receive updates on his treatment.
Feel free to post your message to Rick at the bottom of this page.

Received an update on Rick that is not good.
First, got this on the 26th of April from Mark Westlake:
An update on Rick Slaven. This is not good news I'm afraid. Rick had an MRI on Monday, it looks like the brain tumour is growing again. He has been on a clinical trial and he told me that if the tumour grows 25% he's off the trial. He also said that it's done that. He's now waiting to see what the future treatment will be. Although this is a setback he is still very positive in his attitude and is quite an inspiration in the way he is handling this. In his own words he's "not a quitter". He's looking at this as a bump in the road rather than hitting a wall. He is determined to beat this.
He also told me that all the support he gets from his photo friends "truly helped". Perhaps you can post something on the home page to let people know Rick's present situation so that they can pray or do whatever they do! Keep it upbeat as that's what Rick would want, no gloom and doom! I know he would welcome any messages of support to azcolt@azcolt.com.
And then this morning:
Rick Slaven is due to have further brain surgery on Monday next May 12th.
So post your thoughts to Rick here or via email above. And prayers to God never, ever hurt.

Hi All
Here's a little update.
I went and got an MRI yesterday to see how I am doing...I had one before I started the treatment and this one is to see the results...I am praying for good news. I get the results on Monday...
I go to a Catholic Hospital for my treatments and I told the tech I am praying for a miracle. He said God doesn't give small miracles and I told him....that's fine. I want a big one...Praise God

Hi Guys, I completed the last day of radiation today and they let [me] have the mask that I have been wearing while I get the treatments. It is freaky wearing that mask being bolted down to a table...I am glad it is over....Thought you might like to see what the mask looks like. I won't have to even buy a Halloween costume this year. Pass this on to who ever might like to see it.

Hi,
Just wanted to let you know that I have finished the 5th week of Radiation and next week I will have completed all of the radiation treatments as I have 6 weeks worth...Praise God I am still alive and kicking.
I will continue with the chemotherapy after next week. The plan was 6 weeks of radiation and 6 weeks of Chemo. Now I will probably take the Chemo 1 week a month for a few months. The great news is it will help me and I seem to be one of the lucky patients who seem to tolerate Chemo rather well.
I thank everyone out there who is praying for me as I need all the help I can get...Praise God...I hope to be able to go back to work after I complete the treatments next week. The doctors tell me don't get to anxious as I am still sick even though I feel good. Just wanted to let everyone know that I am doing fine and feeling good. Will send another update when I can. If you know of anyone who would like to know how I am doing, feel free to pass this on to them.

One the best and most popular POTD sites on the web is AZColt's Digital Photo of the Day. It was one of the inspiration for this meager site as well. I just learned this evening that Rick Slaven, AZColt himself, has recently undergone surgery to remove a brain tumor and is now in the recovery stages facing radiation and chemotherapy treatment.
Our prayers go up for Rick and I hope he has a very speedy recovery and handles the treatments well.
I've also learned that fellow photographers have come up with a wonderful idea to let Rick know how much he is loved and appreciated by his online photography family. Since the treatment for cancer generally result in the loss of one's hair, it has been suggested that everyone who can, shouled send Rick a baseball cap or hat of any kind to help cheer him up. You can also email him or send him a card.
If you'd like to take part, send your gift or well wishes to:

Thanks to Kathy Pazaryna for the idea and to Mark Westlake for the heads up.
And GET WELL RICK!!!
