I'm sure everyone will see right through September's POTD category. I know, it's such a transparent topic. But in reality, it can be translucent or even opaque. It can even be a pane in the... GLASS is the topic for September. Clear, semi-clear, unclear. A glass darkly. Drinking, framing, window, you name it... glass is all around.

So take a great photo featuring glass and submit it for consideration in September's category.

For August's POTD theme, I decided to bring back an annual favorite: SPORTS.

Doing it a little later in the year should allow us to be good sports and capture an even greater variety of sporting events.

So if you want to have a sporting chance at the special theme POTD for August, submit your best sports related images (with the past 90 days of course). Category is open now for submissions.

We had 46 photos entered for World in Pictures Day XV and the gallery is now available for your viewing pleasure.

Thanks to everyone who took part! The next WPD is set for October 10, 2010 (10/10/10) and we hope to see your world in three months!

Short notice I know, but the 15th edition of World in Pictures Day is slated for this Sunday, July 4, 2010.

In the United States, this is our Independence Day, when we declared our separation from England (now one of our greatest allies, go figure). Anyway, it will be interesting to see how Americans celebrate on that day, but equally of interest is documenting what else is going on in the world on that day.

With today's POTD selections, we've met and exceeded the 1000 photographer mark on the site. As of today, 1001 different photographers have had photographs selected as photo of the day since the site opened in 2006.

Thank you so much to all who have participated in the site... without you, we'd be a ghost town on the internet.

Looking forward to many, many, many more new winners in the months and years to come.

Today is the day we remember all our fathers (in the US and other parts of the world). So to all the dads, daddies, pops, pas, and fathers on our site, wherever you are, I wish you all a wonderful and Happy Father's Day!!!

Seems our photo hosting site's security feature is biting us right now with previous POTD winners. We're working to get it corrected and apologize for any inconvenience.

UPDATE: This is now corrected and old photos should be visible.

UPDATE: False alarm. Apparently Smugmug is having some site issues and are working on it. They said they hope to have to up very soon.

UPDATE: Received word from Smugmug that their server issues are resolved and we're back online. Thanks!

On vacation for my 21st anniversary, so internet is sporadic at best. Will update when I can!

Now this month is one really easy for everyone to participate. Paper is all around us... for writing, reading, folding, recycling, trashing, eating (if you're a goat), drinking from, etc...

So find a creative way to photograph something made of paper. Simple, eh?

With about 90 minutes to spare here in the Eastern US Time Zone, I want to wish all the moms on our site as well as all the moms of all our members a very happy Mother's Day.

I enjoyed a nice day with my wife and family and lost a good deal of sleep the previous night working on a special video project for my church for Mother's Day -- darn rendering was taking forever. So I missed the POTD postings as well as posting this. But the POTD for today are now active, our usual collection of floral shots in honor of the holiday. Regular POTD will return tomorrow.

Aw man you're such a square. And women too, to be fair. But we're looking for equilateral rectangles here... you know, squares.

You don't need a protractor to confirm all the angles, just show us your best clearly square squares (the photos need not be square).

The fourteenth edition of World in Pictures Day is slated for NEXT Saturday, March 13, 2010.

For those that don't know, World in Pictures Day is a photographyvoice.com initiative to bring together photographers from around the world in an attempt to document one day in the life of this world we share.

WPD is open to photographers of all skill levels and while photography prowess is a definite plus, it's not a requirement. Don't be afraid of expressing yourself with your camera!

How it works is quite simple. Sometime during the scheduled World in Pictures Day, plan and capture a creative image that reflects the world around you. It can be your home, your pets, your family, your city, your car, yourself. Whatever you like! You can focus on the abstract, photojournalism, art, it's your craft -- you decide what you want to show.

The catch? Only that you are allowed to submit only ONE photo to the process! So choose wisely.

The way to a man's heart, they say, is through his stomach. And the way to get a POTD in the theme category for March is in your (or someone's) kitchen.

Food, prep, utensils.

Kitchen gadgets, Gidget using a gadget, Inspector Gadget (maybe not him actually).

Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Brunch, Lupper, Midnight Snack.

Take your best shot of something found in or about the kitchen.

Button, button, who's got the button?

They truly are all around us. On our clothes, our electronics, our toys. Buttons are all over the place. Now button your lip, button your collar, and button down the hatches (yes, I know) and take your own creative style and apply it to the February POTD category.

For those in the USA, Eastern Time Zone: HAPPY NEW YEAR! For those west of us, I won't spoil the ending by telling you we're in 2010 now. For those to the east who got here first, nyah nyah nyah. :)

We're now in the last year of the first decade of the twenty-first century. May it be a safe, fun, God-blessed, and photographically productive year for you all!

Our cameras collect information in shades of red, green, and blue and combine them to give us the millions of colors we see in our photos.

Now take some of the load off the camera and submit a photo containing subjects featuring red, green AND blue. For example, your three chipmunks could each wear a different sweater. Three rubber balls. One red, one green, one blue. Or a red bench set against a blue sky and green field.

The RGB should be prominent compared to the other colors... so be creative.

The Photo of the Day categories are being revamped for 2010. In a streamlining move, the total number of categories is being reduced from 12 currently to six. We're just combining some that have been lagging a bit and insuring the each days selections will be among some of the best photos on the web.

Entry into the current categories will end on December 29. On January 1, 2010 all photos in the current categories will be automatically moved to their proper new category. There is no need to resubmit your entries. On December 30, 2009, you may start directly uploading to the new categories.

The decorations have been up in towns and stores for weeks and most likely in your own house for several days. So Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat, get another POTD in your photographer "hat"...

To our our members and readers in the USA, I just want to say have a safe and wonderful and very happy Thanksgiving Day!

Things in this country have been better, but they've certainly been a lot worse and we still have much to be thankful for.

I am thankful for all of you who visit this site daily, contribute, encourage others and make this worth doing.

For the rest of you around the world who are not observing this day, take a moment to be thankful for all you have (and for all you don't). We should all count our blessing each and every day, no matter where we live, and remember He Who has so richly blessed us.
